Jeff Brazier reveals fears over losing his sons to cancer
The father of two is terrified his sons with suffer the same fate as their late mother Jade
He became a single father eight years ago when his former partner and mother to his two sons, Jade Goody, lost her battle to cervical cancer.
And Jeff Brazier admits the loss has had a big impact on him, leaving him terrified that their sons Bobby, 12, and Freddie, 11, could suffer the same fate.
Jeff has teamed up with Dr Christian Jessen, to back a campaign to raise awareness of human papillomavirus (HPV), thought to be linked to cancer in boys and men.
HPV – a sexually transmitted disease – is known to lead to cervical cancer in women, but Jeff insists there’s not enough awareness of the link between HPV and cancer in boys and men.
Jeff said: “Even despite all the awareness raising Jade did about cancer, I wasn’t aware of the risks related to HPV for my sons.”HPV is typically seen as a female issue. But I’ll definitely be getting them vaccinated now. Jade’s death may have been HPV-related so as a family we know first-hand how heart-breaking the consequences of the virus can be.”
He added: “Jade would want me to do all I can to protect our boys and I can’t lose them too.”
Sounds like a fantastic cause!
