Lutoslawski, Tansman, et al: 39’45
Lutoslawski, Tansman, et al
This disc lasts exactly 39 minutes 45 seconds. Somebody had their tongue in their cheek as they planned this adventurous programme of Polish music from the second world war.
The works themselves are fascinating: Lutoslawski at his most captivating in the Symphonic Variations for Orchestra; Aleksander Tansman’s entertaining Polish Rhapsody; the rarely heard Karol Rathaus’s brooding Music for Strings; and Andrzej Panufnik’s hard-hitting Tragic Overture.
Imaginative choices, very well played by the Sinfonia Varsovia under Jerzy Maksymiuk and Renato Rivolta.
