An Alaska woman accused of killing her two young children years apart reportedly Googled “how to commit the perfect murder” before their deaths.

Stephanie LaFountain, 23, of Fairbanks, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder in connection to the 2015 and 2017 deaths of her infant daughters.

“Just take 10 seconds and think about a mother killing both her children, over two years in completely isolated events,” Fairbanks Police chief Eric Jewes said during a Thursday press conference. “And what that means and what happens sometimes in our community, and sometimes the evil that exists, that’s out there.”

According to the Anchorage Daily News, LaFountain called 911 on November 20, 2017 claiming her 13-month-old daughter wasn’t breathing.  Cops say the woman called her husband’s family, who rushed to her home and started CPR on the girl.

The child was rushed to one hospital and airlifted to another to be treated. She died four days later.

As cops from the Fairbanks Police Department looked into the child’s death, they reportedly found similarities between this death and that of LaFountain’s other daughter in 2015.

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, LaFountain’s first daughter, a four-month-old infant, died in September 2015 after she was reportedly found not breathing. At the time, the infant’s death wasn’t ruled a homicide, but the similarities between the two girls’ deaths caused police to reboot their investigation.

As part of the investigation, cops searched LaFountain’s computer. The News-Miner reported LaFoutain Googled certain terms about an hour before she made the 911 call in 2017.

Among the search terms: “how to commit the perfect murder”, “ways to suffocate’, “ways to kill human with no proof”, “best ways to suffocate”, “16 steps to kill someone and not get caught”, “can drowning show in an autopsy report”, “drowning and forensics” and “suffocating and smothering”.

Autopsy results came back inconclusive for LaFountain’s first daughter, but was consistent with that of a suffocation death. Her second daughter died due to lack of oxygen to the brain.

LaFountain was arrested Wednesday and is currently behind bars at Fairbanks Correctional Center. The two daughters were fathered by two different men.

The suspect does not have any other children, cops say.
