TOKYO–Fast Retailing said Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic partnership
with Daifuku, a material handling systems company, to reform and improve logistics with the end goal of fully automating its warehousing worldwide.
“Fast Retailing and Daifuku will develop and build the world’s most advanced automation facilities with the aim of full automation of Fast Retailing Group brand warehouses in Japan and overseas,” the casualwear giant said in a release.
The two companies will work together to implement “new logistics systems unconstrained by conventional thinking, along with the development of systems necessary to achieve it,” and will form a new team comprised of staff from both firms.
The two sides first established a relationship through the automation of the Japanese casualwear giant’s warehouse in the Ariake district of Tokyo.
Fast Retailing has set a target of 3 trillion yen in net sales. The company first started hinting at automating its supply chain when it opened its new warehouse and global headquarters of Uniqlo in Ariake last year. It has previously said that it would like to offer same-day delivery to customers in the Tokyo area soon, and to possibly expand that service to other areas when possible.
